((Guys, you’re going to have to help me on this one. I don’t recall off the top of my head who was on whose crew. IIRC, Phil was on the ex-Captain’s crew, right, and… Oak and Ur-Gyse were on the Captain’s crew?)) ((ook, at this point I’m also a bit foggy, so sure, I’m gonna run with that. Also, if the Fog of Eternity has warped some of this for me, feel free to fix.))
As the crew stared intently at what lay in the box, everyone couldn’t help but be reminded of how the box came into the possession of the crew of the Purple Jewel… ((flash back music))
The day the box came to the ship was the same day of the disaster at Cyre. A large ship of the Cyran Navy was doing a routine inspection of another boat in harbor. Captain Edrick Tyvran, Ur-gyse, and Oak were all employed in the navy at the time, though Dak-o-do Dak-o-da was the second mate on the ship that was being boarded, the Purple Jewel. At this point, Jin and Shroeder had not yet joined the ship.
The normal traffics of the harbor were interrupted by a strange lightning storm that developed. As people looked inland, a vast red cloud could be seen spreading from the very farthest point of Cyre toward the sea. Considering the amount of land it was covering, it moved with unimaginable speed. People began fleeing the city to try and get away, many of them just jumping in the harbor and swimming. The cloud quickly covered the city ((what was it again?)) and started to slowly seep out into the water. Where the cloud covered, nothing could be seen.
Once the cloud started to cover their ship, Edrick quickly ordered his crew onto the Purple Jewel. The massive red cloud stopped about half way through the navel boat. Crew members started helping people out of the water as well; refugees who had managed to swim away before the cloud hit. Of those was an Eladrin Avenger, Illeith’atharia, as well as a dazed young girl and her several armed guards. The girl had a large case handcuffed to her wrist. Soon the water was stained red with the blood flowing out of the cloud, and body parts began drifting out.
In an attempt to get the boat as quickly out of harbor as possible, a small mixed group of crew and refugees raided the half-uncovered ship next to them Edrick quickly stopped by the captain’s quarters while everyone else picked up the ((can’t remember the name of that ship thingy, that pulls the boat?)). During their task, they were attacked by a number of oozes and other creatures identified to be demonic in nature.
Having acquired the necessary goods and equipment, the ship started the long process of leaving Cyre behind. As the boat was heading out, the current captain of the ship noticed something amiss with the girl and her guards. After a few moments of quiet conversation with the girls guards, one of them chopped off the girl’s arm and grabbed the case, while the others attacked the captain. Soon much of the crew jumped in to aid the captain, though not in time to save her.
The nefarious guards were dispatched despite their best efforts to the contrary, and the little girl was stabilized. It was discovered that she was drugged heavily, which turned out to be fortunate; the pain from losing an arm would be excruciating. Edrick gave the little girl his coat, and she was bandaged up and put in a bed; Illieth’atharia stayed to watch over her. The rest of the crew promptly accepted Edrick as their new captain, and set sail.
The arm the girl had lost turned out to have a dragon mark on it from House Cannith. The box that was chained to her severed arm turned out to be heavily locked. No one could open it. At the next port many of the refuges left the boat; Illieth’atharia, Dak-o-do Dak-o-da, and the girl decided to stay. The girl turned out to be Trisha “Double T” Tyvran.
Later, the ship arrived at the City of Towers, where cargo was sold and purchased. After leaving port, a few days in, the crew discovered that there were two of the same person on the ship! One of the two turned out to be Jin, who was fleeing the city after apparently Jin’s latest elaborate scheme had come to ruin. The Captain agreed to take Jin as a crew member, as Jin’s skill with numbers and negotiations could later prove useful for the crew. They then set sail again.
At the next stop, at ((uhh, gnomeport)), the crew took on Shroeder, who was just leaving her previous post on another ship. Apparently she and her previous crew had differences of opinion, but she was welcome aboard the Purple Jewel.
